Both Porto and PSV fell on the wrong side of fine margins on matchday two in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and will now be desperate to win in order to kickstart their European campaigns when they meet at the Estádio do Dragão.

Match News and Current Form

Porto came from 1-0 down to lead Real Betis 2-1 on Wednesday, only to lose 3-2. That was their second loss in two in the UCL this term, meaning that they face the prospect of suffering four straight defeats in European competition for the first time since February 2016. Perhaps thankful that they didn't have a domestic fixture between the Betis game and this one, the Portuguese giants do at least have a strong recent home record in continental matches, having lost just one of their last eight such encounters (W5, D2), although they are in danger of losing back-to-back UCL games as hosts for the first time since September 2022.

PSV failed to build on their 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk on UCL matchday one, losing 1-0 to RB Leipzig last Tuesday, and morale will have been further dented after they lost 2-1 to ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie on Sunday, having led 1-0. The Dutch outfit now face the prospect of suffering three successive defeats across all competitions for the first time since March 2025, and could be hampered by their defensive failings, having not kept a clean sheet in their last 18 UCL games - their joint-worst such run in the competition’s main draw. This fixture could also see them lose a fourth straight competitive away match, a fate that they last experienced back in December 2013!

Head-to-Head History

Porto have the edge in this H2H (W2, D1, L1), with all four games played in the UCL/European Cup.

Porto defender Jan Bednarek is set to return from suspension here, but team-mate William Gomes was unavailable for the Betis game through injury. PSV’s Guus Til was forced off at the weekend against ADO.

Betting Analysis

Porto are a short price to win here, so over 2.5 goals and both teams to score offers better value.
