Monza - Cagliari

Cagliari have been Serie A’s surprise package this season and look to continue their momentum when they visit a Monza side struggling to adapt on their top-flight return.

Match News and Current Form

It’s been an underwhelming start to the season for Monza, who’ve lost four of their opening six games in Serie A following promotion last term (W1, D1). While that may seem negative on the face of it, the four points they’ve mustered so far are more than in two of their previous three top-flight campaigns at this stage, so the Biancorossi would be forgiven for feeling optimistic here. The bulk of those points were collected in their last home outing when they beat Sassuolo 2-1, affording Monza a shot at picking up back-to-back Serie A home wins for the first time since November 2022, but that looks a tall order for a side who’ve won just two of the last 25 top-flight games they hosted (D6, L17).

Cagliari have made a flying start to the season, sitting inside the top four pre-round and ahead of the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli. It’s their best-ever start to a Serie A campaign in the three-points-for-a-win era, and they could make more history here as their four successive top-flight away wins leave them on the brink of winning five such games in a row for the first time in history. A four-match unbeaten Serie A run (W3, D1) will certainly build belief that this squad can etch their names into the history books, but a poor record of two wins in 15 Monday-held Serie A away games this century (D3, L10) should be enough to keep feet on the ground.

Head-to-Head History

After winning the last two Serie A H2Hs, Cagliari could now beat Monza in three successive games across the top-two tiers of Italian football for only the second time in history, and first since 1963.

Betting Analysis

Monza aren’t a strong side at home, and Cagliari’s recent revival on the road hints that backing an away win could be the best approach here.
